Rock Rugby

Saturday was definitely a rugby day. Early on under the supervision of Coach Kyle a number of players showed up in colors to assist in the cleanup for our neighborhoods that had damage from the tornado. The video made to depict the efforts was awesome and I am proud of the players who attended to lend a hand.

Later that day we played a spirited team from San Antonio (Rangers) and our boys came up on the wrong side. The good news was that many players got the opportunity to start a game for the first time, and many played the entire game. The not so good news was that they forgot to execute plays the way we have been training them. Which should show us just how important practice is and more importantly when at practice to pay attention and work hard on the skills. The boys are better than the outcome but it’s a good lesson to learn, and we will take that from the loss.

Players of the game were:

Brewer Dillon-Sauer for the backs. Calm and collected, he was the glue that held the backline together, showing good judgement on when to pass and when to hold, he really showed the coaches something.

Lloyd Alba for the forwards. Lloyd was a beast and there is no doubt he was made to play rugby!

On the injury front, Alex suffered a fractured collar bone and Dylan may have a broken nose along with Roman’s injury. Injuries happen in contact sports, and we try to prepare the players with technique and fitness to try and avoid them, but they do happen. Anyone with an injury should continue to come to practice, to watch and learn and to help out when needed for your team.

Thanks to the parents for helping out last night, the refs, the food and anything else that was done.

We build and we have patience with our players, heads up and forge forward. Today is a new day and we embrace the opportunities that lie ahead!
