Woodlands vs Rock Rugby

Rock Rugby had a busy weekend. For starters a few of our girls traveled to Fort Worth, teamed up with other players and participated in a 7’s tournament. Coach Jasmine made the trip to manage the team and reports on the day informed me she did an excellent job. The team, called the Funky Bunch ended up 1-2, but more importantly had the chance to play rugby! Arowyn ended up with 4 tries for the day and Carmen with 6. Well done girls!!!

The boys had a rough Saturday night. We played the number one team in the country and they showed us why they are ranked number one. To be honest I have not seen a better high school team in all my years of coaching. They were polished, organized and structured in both attack and defense. However, I still believe we are better than what we showed and I feel the players just got down after being down so quickly. We also had a few players playing injured and one player unavailable due to injury and with the few numbers we have this season that didn’t bode well for us.

And, just to put it into perspective the Woodlands played San Diego Legion youth academy side on Sunday and lost 12-7. There are 36 high school teams in San Diego and the team the Woodlands played is made up of the best of those teams. So, as you can see the Woodlands has it going, 4 sides, a full girls program, and youth programs which provides them an incredible platform. Players of the match were Gavin for the backs and Mason for the forwards.

Men of the match: Mason Gracian, Gavin Richards
