Rock Rugby vs Boks Rugby

Rock fell to their first defeat of the season in a rough and tough arm wrestle of a game decided by a late try.

Mason Gracian scored the Rock try as they went in at the break 7-0 up, but two Bok tries in the second half handed Rock their first loss of the season.

The boys kept pushing to the final whistle but just fell short as the Boks took the honors 7-10. Congratulations to the Boks on the win.

Mathew Bruce gave the key pass for the try and kicked the conversion. Mason Gracian won four turnovers, Gavin Richards two and Mathew Bruce and Ryan Hallenberger one apiece.

Jacob Reyes was man of the match. Switching to fullback after Erin Bolton’s early injury, he fielded the high ball well and was outstanding in attack and defense.

Rock Rugby vs Lake Travis

The boys lost a tough match against Lake Travis last night 27-7. They fought hard the entire match but had too many mistakes which gave their opponent the edge. The first half was very good and ended 12-7. The second half we ran away from support, had the ball stripped from us and missed way too many tackles. That led to a number of tries for our opponents.

Players of the match were Kadin for the backs and Marcos for the forwards.

We also honored our seniors, Kadin, Ian, Marcos, Ayden and Chuck. We appreciate all they have done for our program.

Thanks again to the parents for all their hard work and dedication to Rock Rugby.

Rock Rugby vs Westlake

(This week’s game recap from Coach Rock)
Thanks to all that braved the cold to cheer on the boys last night. For the newer parents and players please note that Westlake is a storied program in Texas rugby. They have numerous State championship titles and have a solid program, year after year. They always come prepared for battle and are coached well. Last night they proved again to continue to walk that path and gave our boys a run.
The first half we started strong. Then with a miscue Westlake capitalized and scored first. It didn’t help that we had missed tackles. Once they captured the momentum it was difficult for our young team to rebound. Similar to last week the first half was riddled with errors, poor decisions and penalties that kept us out of opportunities. With a 15-point deficit in the first half we had our work cut out for us.
The second half started poorly with a dropped kick off. We really couldn’t let them score if we had any chance for victory. But again, we shot ourselves in the foot and had penalty after penalty and missed assignments that led to a score putting us in the hole by 20 points. The boys did fight back to score twice but simply came up short, 20-10. It wasn’t our best game and as we are early in the season, we still have time to improve, which we will. For the second week in a row the players never gave up and never gave in, fighting til the end. That is the team I prefer; we just have to cut down on mistakes and penalties to give us a chance to win.
Players of the match were Kadin Dyess in the backs and Ryan Hallenberger in the forwards who played his best game to date. Coaches and teammates were very proud of his performance.
Thanks to all the parents that helped out last night with everything. It takes all of us to make this happen.
1-1 for now and another big match next week against Jesuit – Dallas.
Tries: Ryan Hallenberger (2)

Rock Rugby vs Katy Barbarians

And there you have it, another season comes and goes for XVs. It was short and it was sweet! The boys rallied around and continued to fight back securing the victory against Katy and ending up in third place in the league. What an awesome achievement for them. We dedicated this season to Todd and he would have been proud of the boys. An awesome group of young men led by a solid leader in Connor.

The game was a bit shaky in the beginning and we missed tons of tackles. But the team united and made a better effort in the second half. Hector got his first battle would with a nasty cut above his eye. I have never seen coach Derek so excited, being the hockey player in the past, enjoying helping Hector with his past game injury experience. The hit of the game came from Gavin, the hardest hit I’ve seen all season! Players of the match were both Braeland (2 tries) and Semi, always in the right place at the right time., and Andrew Lester in the back line. We do have to acknowledge Thomas for his kicking as he was perfect on the day (11 points total).

Thanks to the parents for all their help this season. Shout out to the coaches for their hard work and effort. And, to the BOD for all their work and time.
But, we are not done! This week we start 7s and will continue training on Tuesday and Thursday 6-8 pm!

I love my Rock Rugby Family!!!

Tries: Marcos Gonzalez, Braeland Davis (2), Joshua Egwaikhide
Conversions: Thomas Butterworth (4)
Penalties: Thomas Butterworth
Men of the match: Braeland Davis, Austin Wheeler, Andrew Lester

Rock Rugby vs Westlake

The boys started strong in the first half, they literally were in total control of the game. The latter part of the first half we forgot to tackle and as a result found ourselves behind 24-10 at half. I challenged them to play harder and not give up on the tackles, and in the second half they really came together, outscoring their opponent 17-5. Of course that was 2 shy of the victory but I am proud of their effort to come back, they showed heart and character. Players of the match were Mason for the forwards and Connor for the backs

Tries: Mason Gracian (2), Marcos Gonzalez, Braeland Davis
Conversions: Thomas Butterworth (2)
Penalties: Thomas Butterworth
Men of the match: Mason Gracian, Connor Nicolson
