Rock Rugby Moves to 2 Days a Week Practices

With the 2022 fixtures set, Rock Rugby’s season is fast approaching and Rock Rugby has moved to two days a week practices.

The start time is the same, but we’ve moved practices to the Apex Field on the Northeast corner of Old Settlers Park at 5:30.

Players must bring their practice T-Shirts, Mouth Guard, and the willingness to work hard.

Rock Rugby’s coaches can teach you the game, properly tackle, and Rock’s style of play.

But if you want to be ready for “Mr. Fitness” and compete at a D1 Level more is required.

Here’s Rock Rugby’s Coach Mark on what it takes to play Rock Rugby’s 2022 style of Rugby.

Rugby is a wonderful game – it can be inspiring, it can be breathtaking, it can be brutal, but above all, it is a player’s game and a thinking game.

As coaches, we will drill you in specific skills to improve execution and awareness and provide you a framework to play within, but out on the field, players are responsible for making decisions.

That’s right – we don’t want you looking over to the sidelines for play calls.

We want you looking to your captain and your leaders on the field. As coaches, it is our job to provide you with the tools you need to understand what we are trying to achieve and to make the best decisions. We can make tactical suggestions on game day, but on the field of play, players trump coaches.

We will not be the biggest team out there, but we will be one of the hardest teams to play against. That means playing as a team and not as individuals. It means putting in big hits. It means tackles and jackals. It means pressurizing the opposition into mistakes. It means outthinking our opponents and playing a fast offloading game. It means working hard off the ball to provide options for the ball carrier. It means sacrificing yourself to put your teammate into space. It means varying our play intelligently – passing, running, kicking.

We want to move the bigger teams around the field and tire them out, which is why Mr. Fitness is so important. Here are some key concepts we will aspire to this year:
– We aim for high performance through good decision making
– We execute our basics well
– We look after the ball
– We play with aggression
– We play for each other
– We play with purpose and without fear
