The Art of the Draw

Players – tonight we ran some more advanced passing drills designed to practice the “draw and pass”. The idea is to move the ball quickly to the edge of (or gap in) the defense, commit the last defender and put the extra player into space.

They are not easy drills by any means, but reading the opposition and executing these plays are one of the ways you break down the really good teams. Here are some examples of the technique being used successfully at the highest level.

Note in every instance, the entire purpose of the play is to keep the ball away from contact and work it into space. Also note how often they use the float pass – emphasizing fast hands over the more usual spin pass.

Simply yet effective.

Enjoy.
