Rock Rugby Academy fields four teams at this weekend’s Tropical 7s in Tampa, Florida, including teams in the U18 elite boys and girls divisions. Representing Rock Rugby in the U18 boys elite division are Mason Gracian, Marcos Gonzalez and Gavin Richards while Arowyn Files, Areanna Ference and Ava Hebrandson feature in the girls elite U18 side.

Rock Outlast Plano in League Opener
The Rock boys traveled up to Plano Saturday to take on Plano Rugby in their 2022 Texas D1 opener and came away with a hard fought 24-19 bonus point win. Mason Gracian, Jackson Bennett, Marcos Gonzalez and Kadin Dyess scored the tries with Gavin Richards adding 2 conversions.

Flanker Marcos Gonzalez Named Club Captain
Cedar Ridge senior Marcos Gonzalez has been named Rock Rugby club captain for the 2021/2022 season. The hard tackling back row forward is in his third season with Rock, and is also a member of both the Rock Rugby academy and the AG Outlaws MLR academy sides.

A Parent’s Tale: Let The Kid Play
Marcos was good at football. Not great. Not some natural talent, but good. He was a helluva lot better than I was.
Marcos got a late start in football. We put Marcos in soccer for two years when he was ten and eleven. Soccer was “safer” than football, or so we’ve been told. Lucy even coached the team. Still, soccer bored Marcos to tears. By his last game, he was wandering around listless on the field debating life.

In the buildup to Bloodfest, Rock Rugby played a series of friendly tournaments with some of our local neighbors over the course of several weekends. Some of the other teams who participated included the Huns, Lake Travis, Westlake and San Antonio.
The second week was hosted by Rock Rugby, the weather was dry, the sun shone and players and spectators enjoyed a festival of running rugby.

In the buildup to Bloodfest, Rock Rugby played a series of friendly tournaments with some of our local neighbors over the course of several weekends. Some of the other teams who participated included the Huns, Lake Travis, Westlake and San Antonio.
The first week was hosted by the Huns at Nixon Lane and was more of a Mudfest than a Bloodfest. Torrential rain led to some tricky handling, but the boys did well to stick to the plan and scored some good tries.
